The Gainesville Housing Authority has broken ground on a new affordable housing project in the southwest part of Gainesville.
The Gainesville Housing Development Management Corporation teamed up with the Gainesville Housing Authority for the development of the project. Plans call for two duplex units, each consisting of two bathrooms and two bedrooms, and the units are expected to be geared for low income elderly, retired, disabled, or veteran individuals and their families.
The anticipation is that the future property, which will be situated at 5915 SW 10th Lane in Gainesville, will be completed by this November.
Pam Davis, the CEO of the Gainesville Housing Authority, stated that the duplex is set to be the fourth and fifth affordable housing opportunities her company will have provided Gainesville residents with in the last two years, and the timing couldn't be more perfect.
State Rep. Yvonne Hinson has made a point to say that housing is still one of the greatest issues out there facing working class families. The working middle class, Hinson has said, cannot function as a family on $15 an hour paychecks- and especially not with the current housing prices. Thus, the need for affordable housing has never been greater.
