Gainesville is officially getting a full-size Whole Foods market at 3490 SW Archer Road at a location that was once going to be one of their smaller, typically more urban-focused 365 Whole Foods Market stores. But, with a recent building area increase to over 88,000 total square feet giving the new Whole Foods over 40,000 square feet of space, the company decided to proceed with a full-size store.
Gainesville would have been one of the first 13 cities to open up a 365 Whole Foods Market. These smaller stores are aimed at attracting "younger, hurried shoppers with lower prices and a quicker shopping experience."
Not only does the opening of Whole Foods in Gainesville mean more employment opportunities for the city with what Fortune magazine has named one of the "100 best companies to work for," but it is also bringing a huge selection of natural and organic grocery options to the Gainesville market. Grocery competitors include Trader Joe's, Publix, Aldi and others, however, Whole Foods definitely occupies the largest share of the upscale, trendy grocery market.
The company currently operates more than 465 stores and employs approximately 91,000 people across the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.
