The past year has been full of development projects for Alachua County, with many projects still in the works and on the rise.
There have been plenty of new residential developments that included apartments, townhomes, single-family homes and senior living options. There have been many new office buildings, new and upgraded medical facilities, new parks, and other development projects that are truly changing the landscape of the Gainesville community.
All of these additions, both commercial and residential, are creating thousands of jobs in the community. With so much construction happening all over the city, the need for more construction workers alone has created thousands of jobs. Furthermore, with so many commercial projects, new business is coming to Gainesville and creating even more job opportunities. The good news for Alachua County and the city of Gainesville is that it seems likely that the construction and development surge that is currently taking place is going to continue.
Start-up companies are not slowing down and the growth of the tech industry in Gainesville has been huge. Furthermore, the number of calls coming into the Hub at Innovation Square from international companies that are looking to set up shop in the U.S., as well as from U.S. companies interested in Gainesville for the first time, is really picking up. The fact that the "construction grant for the Hub was the largest ever given by the Economic Development Administration" has put Gainesville on the national radar for new and expanding companies.
Mixed-use projects continue to be a major driving force of development, as they combine both residential and commercial components. So much is slated for completion in 2017, and just as much has yet to begin.
