September 11, 2016

aldigAldi Food Market, a national grocery chain known for having low-priced budget friendly items, is rapidly expanding, and Florida is benefiting from its growth.

It was not long ago when the city of Gainesville approved sites for two new stores, and Ocala approved a site for one new store. Now, one location in Gainesville is getting ready to open and the other two locations are in the works.

Aldi will be hosting a job fair on Thursday, September 15, at the Hilton University of Florida conference center on Southwest 34th Street, and it is scheduled to run from 8 AM until noon and then again from 1 PM until 5 PM. The Gainesville job fair will be accepting applications for positions at two new Gainesville stores as well as for the new store that will be opening in Ocala.

The first of three new Florida store openings will be in Butler North Plaza occupying approximately 17,000 square feet, and its grand opening is slated for mid October. The other Gainesville store location will be at Northwest 13th Street and 39th Avenue, but the scheduled opening date is still to be determined. Training for this secondary Gainesville location will be held at the Butler Plaza location.

The Aldi store in Ocala will be located at State Road 200 and SW. 90th Street and will also be approximately 17,000 square feet, but an opening date has not yet been confirmed. This would be Marion County's third Aldi supermarket.

The company is hiring store associates, shift managers, and a manager trainee. Store associates are being offered $11.50 per hour, shift managers are offered $15.50 per hour, and a manager trainee would be paid $45,700 per year, according to a recent press release from Aldi.

Aldi was founded in Germany in 1946 and its US division is headquartered in Batavia, Illinois. The chain’s deep discount business model includes using relatively smaller buildings while also offering a more limited selection of products and carrying a substantial inventory of store-branded items. The company also utilizes labor-saving measures, such as having customers pack their own groceries, among other things.
