Gainesville continues to improve healthcare and create new jobs

June 18, 2016

cancer centerIt is no secret that Gainesville is at the forefront of medical research and care. But now, a new collaborative effort between patients and cancer specialists has allowed for a brand new state-of-the-art cancer center. The North Florida Regional Cancer Center is a 50,000 square-foot, $10 million facility that has the most state-of-the-art equipment, as well as more space for cutting edge treatments and services that can all be offered under one roof.

Services at the center will include radiology, chemotherapy, acupuncture and massage therapy. Providing all of these services in one place makes it less stressful, more cost-efficient and more convenient for the patient. The collaboration between patients and cancer specialists has created a facility and environment that maximizes care as well as patient comfort.

Furthermore, as the center continues to grow, more jobs will be created. The cancer center anticipates a growth rate of 5 to 10% per year with the hopes of adding 5 to 10 jobs per year.

The idea for patient input with regard to the design of the cancer center came from a trend in healthcare known as evidence-based design with studies that reveal that building design has an effect on the healing process of patients by reducing stress and by reducing medical errors. The new facility has a larger waiting area, more light and bright colors, better signage, more and larger exam rooms, wider hallways and also more stations for medical assistants to use for administrative purposes. The cancer center sees over 200 patients each day for which it must provide the best and most comfortable care.

This new addition to the original facility really brings Gainesville up to a whole new level in terms of cancer patient care, on par with many of the large cancer institutions around the country.

Florida Cancer Specialists, which is headquartered in Fort Myers, originally opened North Florida Regional Cancer Center in 2009. For more information on the new facility, read the full article at Gainesville.com.
