Yummy House is moving and more

March 18, 2016

yummyThe ever-popular restaurant, Yummy House, which is currently located at 7605 Newberry Road, will be moving to a new, much larger location at 3102 SW 34th Street, with the reopening scheduled for Tuesday, March 22. Yummy House started in Tampa where it has two locations, and then expanded to Sarasota, Orlando, Ocala and Gainesville. Business for this Asian food restaurant is booming, and a newer, bigger space is crucial.

The 34th Street location, formerly housing the salad chain Crisper’s, will give Yummy House 7,000 square feet of restaurant space, whereas the previous Newberry location was only 2,700 square feet in size. Triple the space means plenty of room for the current overflow of customers as well as for new customers. Plus, a new, larger kitchen will allow the restaurant to broaden its menu to include, among other things, live seafood and country-style Chinese food, which is in part to serve the large number of Asian customers in Gainesville and specifically at Yummy House. There will also be a noodle bar as well as extensive dim sum options—approximately 80 offerings whereas the previous location only offered 15 dim sum plates.

As for the Newberry location, it will not be vacant for long because Flaming Crab will be moving in. Flaming Crab is a Cajun-style seafood restaurant planning to open in early April, with a menu that will include crawfish, shrimp, crab, fried chicken, wings and fried rice, as well as wine and beer.

In other restaurant news, Heavenly Ham will officially be closed after March 26, but will be reopening as HoneyBaked Ham Cafe and Co., since HoneyBaked Ham bought Heavenly Ham back in 2002, and the transition to the new name and store is just now being completed. The store is located in Plaza Royal at 3822 Newberry Road, and will offer almost the exact same menu as Heavenly Ham offered.
