Alachua County home sales highest in four years

July 6, 2015

Alachua County home sales recently reached their highest level in four years in May, where sales of single-family homes jumped 20% since May of 2014.

The median home price has also risen almost 14%, and has continued to steadily rise over the last few months. The price jump is due to higher priced inventory becoming available, as well as the appreciation of certain Gainesville neighborhoods.

While new listings are up 13% over the past year, they haven’t kept up with sales, and inventory is down 15%. The drop in inventory suggests a slight shift to a seller’s market for Alachua County.

The jump in home sales is due in part to the increase in first-time homebuyers, which reflects a positive change for the housing market as a whole.
