Potential new small-scale Publix close to UF

June 10, 2015

publix store frontA new small-scale Publix is potentially being built at 201 NW 13th Street, where the first Gainesville McDonald’s currently stands. The McDonald’s would relocate to 1206 W. University Avenue to make way for this smaller 20,000-square-foot concept, designed to follow the trend of big box retailers developing smaller versions of their large stores to fit in college towns, beach communities and urban locations.

This redevelopment on this block of 13th Street is one of many in the area, including plans for The Standards, formerly University Corners, the 10-story development that has been years in the works, as well as a six-story apartment building with ground-floor retail, and another six-floor apartment building with a parking garage.

The new McDonald’s location would take over the building that formerly housed EndZone Bar and Grill, and before that, Mellow Mushroom Pizza.
